House of Representatives prepares for arrival of the great Manny Pacquiao
The Philippine House of Representatives is ready to roll out the red carpet in anticipation of boxing star Manny Pacquiao’s return to the chamber Monday.
Pacquiao, who won his eighth-division title this weekend with a brutal twelve-round victory over Antonio Margarito, is expected to return to his duties as congressman just a week after the Dallas, Texas, performance.
“Pacman” is expected to be arriving into his native Philippines Saturday.
According to An Waray Representative Florencio “Bem” Noel, Pacquiao’s colleagues are busy raising funds to give the celebrated fighter a “hero’s welcome.”
Noel, who oversees the accounts committee, indicated that every single 280 House members have pledged at least P1,000 for food, decorations, and other miscellany needed for the celebrations Monday.
In addition to a lavish festival, Pacquiao will be greeted with his second Congressional Medal of Distinction.
“Everyone is participating and everybody is contributing in their own little way to pay tribute to the greatness of Pacquiao,” Noel stated.
Opening ceremonies will commence at the plenary, and continue at the rear entrance of the session hall where a band will perform live music. Pacquiao, also distinguished in the Philippines for his singing abilities, is expected to take the microphone for
a few numbers.
Noel added that meals courtesy of a popular Philippine food chain will be distributed to the close to 4,000 House officials and employees. Particular House officials also received a memo that Pacquiao may hold a news conference in the press center of the
complex.
Last Monday the House approved all 20 resolutions to commend “Pacman” for his victory.
In his latest ring effort, Pacquiao was able to avoid punishment by a much bigger Margarito, and dish out twelve rounds of beautiful boxing. Although Pacquiao said there were occasions he was hurt in the fight, officials had him ahead on almost every round.
Pacquiao is widely considered the best boxer in the world.
