House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut set October release, PS3 headset to hit markets in September
SEGA have announced that their elaborately named title, House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut will be shooting its way on to Sony’s PlayStation 3 console in October.
Developed by Headstrong Games, the cult classic zombie arcade shooter is set for a makeover as it makes the leap to the PlayStation boasting 3D compatibility and will make use of the PlayStation Move controller.
Not only will the game have the seven levels from the original, which was released on the Nintendo Wii two years ago, but will also have two new scenario and new games modes as well as SEGA look to ensure that players get their money’s worth in terms of
content.
The original House of the Dead: Overkill was released in 2009 and received positive reviews from critics. The atmosphere and look of the game were based on B-films from the 1970s and received many accolades and awards which included an award for being the
funniest game of 2009.
A recent report indicated that House of the Dead: Overkill was set to be awarded a Guinness World Record for being the most profane game before eventually losing out to Mafia II. That did not stop the game from receiving many other awards including the funniest
game of 2009.
The game follows the simple arcade shooter formula where zombies appear on screen and the player must blow their brains out while at the same time avoid killing any innocent bystanders in the process. While it plays from a First Person view, players cannot
control the movements of their in game characters which adds to the tension.
SEGA’s Gary Knight seemed to sum up what the game would bring to the PlayStation 3 when he went on record stating, “The House of the Dead: OVERKILL – Extended Cut for the PlayStation 3 system will send players to the shrieking mad heart of mutant mayhem.
This time we went further, faster and bloodier than before. We extended everything, even the title.”
House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut is due out in North America on the 25th of October, with an European release scheduled just three days later on the 28th.
Meanwhile Sony is set to launch a brand new wireless headset as it looks to beef up its accessories line.
With a price tag confirmed to be $99.99, the headset will boast 7.1 virtual surround sound as well as a retractable mic.
When it comes to hardware, the surround sound will be a result of a built in subwoofer and can be controlled via the PS3 as well, a good thing for those too lazy to remove their hands from the controller.
The wireless headset is set for release sometime around September.
