Question:

Houses in Calais?

by  |  earlier

After a recent trip to Calais in France we noticed that most of the windows on the houses we saw had rolling type shutters on them.

Does any one know why?

Is it a security thing?

Or a fashion?

Or is it something to do with the weather?

  1. It is both for security and also to keep the houses cool, you dont need expensivve air conditiong.  You find this alot in the south of France.

  2. It's just common practice in France, and Holland and Belgium for that matter. It is largely fashion and security - where old fashioned shutters have been replaced with the rolling metal ones. In cold climates it also keeps rooms warmer - although of course darker too...!
