In monopoly, say you have a full set of places eg. the two browns (old kent and whitechapel), do you have to land on them to put houses on them, or just put houses on them whenever it is your turn?

  1. as long as it's your turn and you have enough money, you can build on a set

  2. AS long as you have a monopoly of any property, you can put houses or hotels on whenever it is your turn. You don't have to land on them first.

  3. Once the Monopoly of a specific color is obtained, you may build houses or hotels at any time.

House rules may require you to wait until it's your turn to build (to prevent issues of somebody else landing on a developing property), but as long as you have the funds to buy the buildings, you can build.

HOWEVER, be fully aware that you only get HALF your money back if you have to sell your buildings...  so budget accordingly!

  4. Once you have the full set of places, you may place house on them at the beginning of your turn.

  5. You can build houses at any time.  However, some play with house rules that say you can build only on your turn, before you shake.

  6. people forget that there must be houses available for others to buy and build

I've played countless games with 4 houses on mediteranean and Baltic and 6 other places to limit what others can do!  I think there are 32 house?  so if you have 8 properties in monopolies then you can prevent your opponents from building any!  Clever and mean but totally within the rules!
