  1. Irrigation and all that stuff. Or there are already water on the mountains (which is mostly the case). Some ancient kindoms on the mountains had dozens of people climb down and bring up waters.


  2. water well or they keep rain water in barrels.

  3. It is pumped.  Usually into a storage tank higher than the house, this provides even pressure without the surging that is common to pumps.  Even water from a well is pumped up and out of the well into a storage tank.  

  4. I live on a mountain outside of Anchorage Alaska, and we get our water from a well that was drilled when the house was built.
