Question:

Housesitting?

My girlfriend housesits for some people and they are gone a lot. The house is terraced so that it is 4 stories and is on the beach. It was built in the late 80s so it isn't that old. I was just wondering if anyone besides myself and my girlfriend think that it is wierd that someone called out her name from a dark room, after she had something warm brushed up against her. She came there late two nights ago and the upper bedroom light was on. No one has been in there at all to turn it on. Now today, she comes home and a broken light that we both unplugged and put aside was plugged in, and turned on. When we sleep there at night we can hear creeking in the upstairs late until the early parts of the morning. The owners are gone in another state and they say we are the only ones that have the keys to it. Oh and another thing, we found a small headstone looking thing last week and realized that it is filled with someones ashes. There is pictures of a old lady next to it...What do you think?

  1. find out the history of that house if you can.

  2. I think your girlfriend is getting spooked out over nothing. Her imagination is running away with her.

She finds herself in a big empty  house all alone that she is unfamiliar with and it becomes scary. Fear causes her to look around for shadows, listen for noises that could be interpeted as voices, and inconsistancies that could be ghost activity.

If you are afraid and your imagination is running wild, you will hear voices, see shadows and stray lights, and things will not seem quite right.

The voice and the warm thing brushing up against her could have easily been caused by her own mind.

The creaking is caused by two things. Its a 4 story house, so the wind will cause beams to shift and rub. At night time the weather generally cools down some and starts to warm up in the morning. This causes the wood to contract and expand which causes creaking.

  3. My answer to you is,Good move.Get the girlfriend spooked and you get to sleep over.As a young man that's exactly how I'd of played it.As an older man who owns his own house.I'd throw the both of you out.

  4. First you should think about reality and the fact that there could be someone that has broken into the house. Do you really want your girl there alone with some stranger there? But then, if that's not the case, perhaps there's a ghost there. It's happened before. You should ask the owners if someone who's lived there died when they lived there. But most importantly just make sure your girl is safe. :) Hope things work out.

  5. Could very well be. Sounds like whoever it is is harmless though. The light switched on...weird enough, I get the sense she left the light on for you. The upper bedroom light was just a "hey, I'm here". And no, it isn't weird at all that she heard someone calling her name. Nothing to worry about, I don't feel anything bad there. Sounds like someone stayed around.

  6. It's more important to not think about the age of the house, but more so the age of the land. Just because a building is built it doesn't mean that those who have lived on the land previously don't still haunt it. This earth is far older than the buildings that are on it.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of something paranormal going on.. seeing as how almost anything is possible..

Suggest that she take pictures around the house or do some research on the history of the land of which the house resides.

  7. Doesn't sound like much of a mystery, if you found ashes in an urn and a picture of the occupant - then maybe you've figured it out.

A beach house would be made of wood and definately would creak and settle because of the moisture in the air - the heat of the day and cooling at night explains that right off.

If you feel creeped out by the ashes, ask the owner who she is and greet her every time you come over. Light her a candle and bring her some flowers - maybe she'll be quieter.

  8. I think you guys need to keep a journal at the home and write down everything that happens.

So that way, if something really screwy goes on in the house, at least you have yourselves covered with all the other strange things going on.

  9. And you're still going to stay there??? lol I think I'd have second thoughts.

I'd find out everything I could from the owner. If it's been empty..then probably someone has been staying in it. I live in an ocean town..and worked for a rental company. People were always staying in the vacant places...the bosses son...housekeepers...vagrants...They seem to know when someone leaves a house empty. I sure wouldn't be there alone..and I'm thinking not at all. And I'd find out whose ashes those are and why they are there. Lots of times I thought things were ghosts..only to find out too late..others were coming into my house..through the roof...and the windows. Don't think it can't happen because it does. I'd at least tell the police..and have some kind of protection. Have the police check it out...and ask the neighbors if they've seen anyone there. Good Luck!!

  10. Sounds to me like your girlfriend is house sitting a haunted house.  Surely a house that old has some imprinting on it and that may be want she is experiencing.  I don't mind ghosts and spirits as long as they don't scare me on purpose.

  11. i think you have a squatter, get yourself a baseball bat

  12. Auditory hallucinations are not uncommon. These can be triggered by stress or large electro magnetic fields.

It is not a reason to conclude that a person has a mental disorder.

The room was dark so it is possible that she brushed up against something not the other way around.

It is possible that the lights could be on a rotating timer that turns on different lights around the house at different times to appear that someone is home.

The broken light being plugged in is certainly unusual and the only normal explanation is someone plugged it in.

This would concern me much more than a ghost.

There are ways to get into homes without using keys look for unlocked windows or other easy access points. Of course locks can be picked as well.

The creaking sounds are probably just changing temperatures effecting the wood and structure of the house when it cools. You might try to listen for these sounds during the day. Also, go look upstairs when you hear it to make sure nothing and no one is in the house.

People keep the ashes of loved ones at homes all the time.

My sister has our father's ashes and she has never experienced anything unusual in her home. I see no reason to contribute any activity to this until you have evidence that at least suggest this possibility.

All that said you could set up a tape recorder and a video camera, also take a still camera and conduct an investigation and see if you get anything unexplained.

  13. try checking  wth  the  neighbours  if  theres  anything  weird  abt  the  hse or  any  ghostly  sightings.  try lodging  a complaint  wth  the  local  police.   better  still  inform  the  owners that  u r   gf  will  nt  hse  sit  anymore.

  14. Well, I have been doing paranormal investigations for several years.  I can tell you that it doesn't matter when the house was built.  The land can absorb the spirit itself just as much as a structure.  Try setting up a video camera and see if anything comes up.

  15. you want to know what I Think??? I think that the old lady In the urn is haunting ur house!
