When invited to a housewarming party, is one expected to bring a gift? If so, what is appropriate?

The couple's house we were invited to just got married last year and recieved a ton of housewares for their wedding. So, I'm just not sure what to get them - or if I'm expected to give anything at all.

  1. People usually bring something small like maybe a plant or bottle of wine or a knick knack that would be useful.

  2. I just had a housewarming party and while I did not expect gifts, we received two houseplants and six bottles of wine.  All were most welcome!  (Especially the wine.  One of the houseplants is already dead, but that's my fault and not the giver's.)

  3. Giving gifts are not a huge thing in our (USA) culture however, housewarming gifts are nice to give but, I don't think they are necessary. My feeling on it is to go middle of the road and maybe do a house plant in a nice pot because, plants can really help to make a house a home. Just make sure you choose a plant like an Ivy, Pothos or Spider plant as these plants are pretty easy to grow. Even nicer do a little research and write up a little tag on how often it should be watered.

  4. Scented candles would be nice... Some nice Aromatic candles should do the trick....

They're cheap.... Lift the room....and you actually carried a gift....

There's no way you can lose!

  5. get a nice painting, or wall hanger. If not sure, give a

gift cheque which they can use whenever they want.

    savithri

  6. something that  is of permanent  use.  Emily post  suggests  guest towels or place mats

  7. a pie, wine, a card,

  8. Typically you should take something to offer the host.  A bottle of wine, a plant, a decorative item for their home.  You could even bake cookies or pick up a nice pie for them. Picture frames or even nice hand soaps would be good too. Doesn't have to be anything over the top, like a new couch or anything LOL. It truly is the thought that counts here so don't stress too much!!

  9. A gift certificate to a nice restaurant is always nice.

  10. Yes Maybe something for the yard a tree or plant or garden tools in a nice basket.

  11. Well,  booze or eatables could be your answer. Since they dont remain for a longer period. A bottle of wine, or a  "congrats" cake!

  12. Just bring your standard hostess gift, something small like a candle, bottle of wine, plant, coasters. The party is more about them showing off their new digs then getting gifts.

  13. chances are they are expecting gifts!

it never hurts to be that one who asks the new homeowner if they need anything or want anything right now as a gift!

other wise... get them something for the house like a plant, food baskets, fruit stuff, maybe the lame gift card so they can get what they need when they need it!

not too much for decoration that should be picked by the home owner themselves!

but plants are always a great gift!

    maybe a book too!

  14. If you are attending a housewarming party you must bring a gift.  The color scheme of the home should have been noted in the invitations.

If not, I would call and inquire.

  15. Get them a plant or a gift card to Home Depot.

  16. bottle of wine (if they drink it...) or other booze (if they drink)...

    flowers are always nice...

    something small...some recipes ??? a book ???

it doesn't have to be much..
