i have a 1 year old normal leopard gecko, and i just got a 4 year old tremper albino( both are females ) i have a 20 gallon tank, when i put the tremper in the tank my other gecko attacked her and bit her tail and a scuffle broke out so i seperated them, and try again this time my normal leo sniffed the other ones tail and up to the mid section and bit the tremps side and again they went crazy, i thought only male leos faught. Is there anyway to stop this behaviour, i want to house them together and i cant always be around to be a referee of this duels, lol, and i dont want either one to end up dead, and i read that they fight to the death. I Need Help Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. if they are both females (have you had them probed by a professional?) then your first leo is being possessive of her surroundings, and its not surprising, that's been her tank for ages, then suddenly there's another leo in there, she's probably confused and showing whos boss, i'd keep them separate for good, then there'll be less competition for food/space. leos are happier alone than in a group anyway. they will tolerate being in groups sometimes but prefer to be alone.

  2. Nope females fight too. You normal may be hot, or it may just be dominating. There is no way to stop this. they are naturally solitary animals and this is what happens.

Waving the tail is a defensive posture. You first leo doesn't like the other one.

This is why you should only have one per tank.

  3. Maybe just MAYBE they're both males? Just a suggestion.

I just read this...Adult males of all types of lizards will fight each other, and sometimes to the death, if they come into contact. A male will vibrate its tail rapidly when it sees another gecko. If the other gecko in turn vibrates its tail in the same fashion then each of them knows that contact has been made with another male and a fight will occur. If, however, a male signals his presence via the tail shaking and the other gecko does not respond in like fashion, then the male knows that the gecko near him is in fact a female. This behavior is one means of determining their s*x.

    I hope that helps.
