Hello, I am Michael, and I recently got married to a Filippina from Ozamis. I am going to bring her to the US but need to put her in an appartment. I am Army and as you know I have a few more hurdles than the civilian counter part..hehe. I would like to know if they have a Housing allowance for the philippines so I can keep her in an appartment till we get past the processing time for the visas. Is it different for certain areas like here in the states? I would appreciate all and any help on this. thank you,

Michael

  1. Tell me about it: I had to have permission from my Company Commander to marry my wife (a Filipina) and had a stack of paperwork more than 3 inches thick.  I was stationed in Germany at the time.

If you processed all the forms, documents, etc., BEFORE marriage, you would be able to get a visa AT THE TIME OF MARRIAGE for her to accompany you.

You did not state any particulars, such as:

    1. Your age

    2. Where are you stationed

    3.  Did you "accomplish" all of the paperworks?

    4.  Where in the world were you married?

    5.  Was it a civil or church wedding?  (I had both)

    6.  Did you, if married in the Philippines, get the necessary paperwork filled out, notarized, etc., IN THE PHILIPPINES?

I don't know of any housing allowance to be used in the Philippines, but once, but once she is with you, you would be elligible for housing allowance.

You MUST do everything, and do everything in the proper order, at the proper time, and you will not have a problem.

Not only did I marry a Filipino (it refers to the nationality), but I assisted many others, Army and Civilian, to be married (while I was stationed in Germany).

IF you were stationed in the U.S., you should have applied for a fiancee visa, the quickest, simplest way to bring a foreign bride to the States.

  2. Your base finance office should be able to start your housing allowance for you.

Back in the "old" days (when we had bases in the Philippines) you got straight BAQ for off base housing in the Philippines.  There was no overseas allowance or VHA type payment.
