I am getting 2 ball pythons I have researched their needs and I have other snakes. What I am wondering is how can I heat their tubs? I have set-up sterilite tubs with locking lids. Can I safely put a UTH on the plastic? Or is there a better way?

Thanks

  1. yeah the really useful boxes are good and a heat mat under them if used right should be fine

  2. tubs are generally used in racks. if your not familiar with them, they are shelves with heat tape on the back and you just slide the tubs in on the shelves. the tape gives off heat from the back. you cannot put an UTH on plastic! if you are not putting them in a rack, you should just stay with a tank or vivarium or whatever. it would be easier if you have no rack.

    good luck!

  3. it depends what tub it is the british Really Useful Box brand can handle temps up to i think its 120F but many other can because they will melt/give of fumes etc. get some sort of "buffer" between the bottom of the tub and the top of the mat (something safe but transfers heat well)
