Question:

Housing benefit for a single working person?

I am looking into taking the big step into my own house / flat for the first time but when I've worked it out, it doesn't seem that i could live comfortably on my wage. I am on a low income (less than £13k), keep in mind rent locally with council is average £270 a month alone, but think I'll have go private because of a housing shortage boosting it up quite a bit.

I've heard my wage means I may be entitled to some kind of supplement.

If anyone could give me some advice it would be useful, and informative links would be useful too!

    check this out its useful.

BTW housing benefit wont pay for you to live comfortably they will pay if your income is below the personal allowance set my the government with is not much.

A 13k salary is no classed as a low income i dont think. Its average

  2. I know a lot about real estate in USA.  Not one thing about UK.  If you click on the UK flag at the bottom of the page does it send you here because you speak English. /

  3. I doubt it - your take home pay would need to be around the £6,000 around here and on £13k you'll be above that.  Might be different in areas with higher rentals though.  Your council website should have a housing benefit calculator - you put in your income, savings, rent costs etc., and it tells you if you can get any help, so I'd start there mate.

  4. working tax credit and possibly help with council tax as for housing benefit you would be bloody lucky its descretionary and only covers a little of the rent if you work so please go to C,A,B, to get the full picture before commiting to a job

  5. If you are single, under 25 and rent from a private landlord, you will normally only be entitled to enough housing benefit to cover the average cost of a single room in a shared house in your area.

    (according to http://england.shelter.dev.squiz.co.uk/g...

sorry mate if you want your own house or flat your going to have to get a better job or stay at home and save.

  6. Get off the computor and take a second job.  The rest of the Brits do not owe you a living.
