Housing benefits in the U.K?

Question

a 24 y/o female with severe depression (and has history of self harm and eating disorder) who is considerd homeless, with a GP letter, what is she intiteled to? and what would happen if she has a pet cat

If you could find her a flat - she would be entitled to a fair rent assessment that would cover most of the monthly rent and would cover most of her council tax.  Assuming that she is in receipt of Incapacity benefit / job seekers allowance they'd have to cough up.  Remember this is administered by the local council not the government.  That would get round the whole cat problem.

Not sure what you are asking but if I understand correctly then you should contact your local council and join the housing waiting list, when you are allocated housing you then apply for housing benefit which will be assessed on your income.

GP letter may make a difference for housing list but owning a cat won't!

Not a lot, a pretty run down Council flat generally and unless its ground floor you'll have to hide the cat.

Better to stay at home and get yourself sorted or you could go the pregnancy route.  Single women/mothers usually end up w. nice Council houses that they can get their future boyfriends to buy for a song for 2+ kids or 3 if same s*x.

Anyone on Incapacity Benefit/JSA or Income Support can get Housing Benefit.  The problem is finding a private landlord who will rent to a tenant on HB.  And also one who will accept pets.

She can look forward to  grotty hostel accommodation for 28 days,If she is then deemed priority for housing she will be housed in an area of low demand.her cat would not be allowed in homeless accomodation..
