Question:

Housing shortage at Fort Drum????

I have been trying to read up on the area and I am really concerned about the housing shortage. Most of the complaints I have read are from a year ago at least. I really need to live on post because we have a big dog (weimaraner) and we usually can not rent off post. Does anyone know about how long the wait for housing would be for a 2 bedroom, e-5?

  1. For an e-5 that needs a 2 bedroom the wait is never longer then 4 weeks, now if you want a 3 bedroom the waiting list is very very long, alot of e-5's get offered housing the same day they sign up. Now as for their housing, you have a chance of getting an upstairs apartment with no yard...their 2 bedroom housing is garden style apartments, a bottom floor apartment, then the upstairs apartment. We had a 2 bedroom apartment and it sucked , I was the mayor of our housing area, my husband is an e6,our bah was 1300. our friend is an e5 and their BAH was 1100 a month, and the apartments on post arent worth that much, plus utilities now that has gone private. I would try calling these apartments they are all brand new, and very close to post plus they allow pets and their rent for a 2 bedroom is only 885...
