Question:

Housing two quail species in the same cage? Coturnix and Bobwhite?

I know it's not recommended, and I've never heard of anyone doing this before, but... could I pull it off? Would they two species attack each other and just generally not get along? Has anyone out there ever done anything like this before?

I know that some quail speceas can interbreed... can Coturnix and Bobwhite? I'm sure if they can they wouldn't have much trouble in the same cage, but... I just don't know.

All help is appreciated, Thanks!

  2. Most species can interbreed.  I have heard of lots of different kinds of quails being interbred.  Some are very strange looking, and some, you can even tell had parents that were different kinds of quail.  You may be able to house the two together, you will have to introduce them slowly, just as you would any other birds.  Put the cages side by side for about a week, and then try putting them together and see what happens. If they are opposite s*x, (which I assume they are) they will have a much better chance of getting along well. It is usually same sexes that have most of the problems being caged together.  Don't leave them caged together for long, though at first, without be supervised just in case.  Good luck in your ventures, PieGuy....
