Houston Astors beaten by Detroit Tigers 2-7 – MLB News
Houston Astros continued their heroic run as they took another embarrassing 2-7 loss against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, May 14 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers’ Manager Kim Leyland will be extremely delighted with the outcome of the game. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Tigers have some of the best pitching and hitting talent in their squad but for some weird reason they have not been able to convert their
talent into consistent results. Their win against the Astros improved their win loss record to 21-15 and it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can continue their good work to claim the top spot on the American League Central Division standings table.
"Altuve came out for precautionary reasons, and he's already told me that he's playing tomorrow," Houston manager Bo Porter said. "Norris wanted to stay out there, but we'll see how he feels in the next day or two. That's always the question when it comes
to back injuries."
"I've hit leadoff in college and I've hit leadoff in the big leagues and in the minor leagues," Dirks said. "It's really nothing different. The way I approach it, I just try to get on base for the big guys."
Starting pitcher, Anibal Sanchez once again showed the stuff he is capable of as he allowed just six hits and two runs in seven solid innings. Striking out eight batters, he did a significant damage to Astros’ plan. It will not be wrong to say that Sanchez
is one of the finest pitchers in the American League. It will be exciting to see if he can continue his excellent form to earn another huge pay day at the end of this season. Relief pitcher Jose Ortgea also made his presence felt as he pitched two outstanding
scoreless innings of relief to help the Tigers hold on to their lead.
Victor Martinez, who missed the entire past season due to a knee injury, finally had something to cheer about he homered to right in the fourth inning. Outfielder Andy Dirks also made his presence felt as he smacked a four run home run in the fourth inning.
