Houston Astros' GM Jeff Luhnow with new strategy for the team – MLB News
The Houston Astros’ newly hired general manager Jeff Luhnow stated on Tuesday, January 31 that the club’s focus is on working hard to become more competitive. In one of his first interviews prior to the commencement of Spring Training, Luhnow detailed how
he thought the team can go forward.
"This is a fiercely competitive business," Luhnow says. "Everybody wants to win. But it's a zero-sum game. Whenever you win, someone else is losing. We may create more revenue for the industry, but we don't create more wins every year. Every victory comes
at the expense of someone else's defeat."
Houston Astros are undergoing sweeping changes since the arrival of their new owner Jim Crane and the president George Postolos. With Luhnow working as the new general manager, he had prepared a special delineation of how he should proceed with the team
in the days ahead.
With the report on the new owner’s table, Luhnow is pleased that Jim Crane agrees with almost every point he has argued. The club is all set to join the American League next year.
It is obvious that currently the Houston Astros are strategising on developing their team for some measurable success in the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball season. They want to make a plan that is workable and durable. It is thus a part of effectively
putting an end to the years of disappointment for the team without any major victory to their credit.
"We're going to work hard, work smart and make a return to competitiveness in as short a time frame as possible," Luhnow says. "That takes a commitment, from Jim Crane all the way down to our area scouts and coaches, that this is going to be the lifeblood."
Last week saw the new management lower the prices of tickets. Now they are focused on Drafts and other issues that the club has to deal with on an urgent basis. It is indeed building a line up, that in long term, becomes the strength of the team and makes
a combination that is able to effectively compete against the top tier teams in the League.
