Houston Astros’ Brian Bogusevic might play as a right fielder – MLB News
The Houston Astros’ hitter Brian Bogusevic might get the starting job in right field this season according to a team report on Wednesday, February 1. Brian Bogusevic, who was drafted in the team initially as a pitcher, has over the years altered his role
to that of a hitter.
With the commencement of the season, he will have his seventh consecutive season with the Houston Astros where his debut was as a Minor League player. The evolution of his role from pitcher into a hitter will see increased competition this season as he will
have J. B. Shuck and Jack Crust to contend for the right field role.
With the presence of some tough contenders within the team, Brian Bogusevic will be looking to redouble his efforts to fit into the role he may get next season. Prior to him, it was Hunter Pence who was executing this role.
However, Brian Bogusevic soon had this role assigned to him. As a right fielder, the player has had the batting average of .317 after Hunter Pence was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. If he manages to assume the responsibility to play at right field
this season as well, he vows he will try to create momentum for that.
"It would be nice to build off a little bit of momentum at the end of last season, coming into this spring," he said. "Every year is a different year and there's a lot of changes in the offseason, and everybody's kind of in the same boat with a blank slate.
You get the feeling that it's going to be the best players who are out there. Everybody is out there to prove they're those guys."
In total, he was able to play 87 games last year with 164 at-bats, scoring 22 runs and having 47 hits to his credit. The player had a slugging percentage of .457 and an OPS of .805 with .287 average.
The Astros will be hoping that the team will put in a good performance during the upcoming Spring Training session. It will be interesting to see if Bogusevic manages to secure himself in the right field position.
