Houston Astros’ Craig Biggio looks to make it to Cooperstown on first vote - MLB News
Craig Biggio is for the first time on the ballet of the Hall of Fame and there are many hopes that the hitter will secure a place in the Cooperstown on his first attempt.
Considered by some as the greatest player that has donned the Houston Astros’ uniform, he will be vying for an entry as the first player from the Astros who represented the team throughout his career. Jeff Bagwell is the other hopeful from Houston who will
be up for a vote for the third time.
Craig had over 3000 hits in his career and also is known as the king of getting hit as he has the record in majors for most hit by pitches.
Biggio says that the game is not easy to play and had he been able to carry on, he would have still been playing it even for free. He just loved the fact that he got the chance to play and loved doing it day in and day out.
"It's hard to play the game," Biggio said. "I would have played it for free if that's what I had to do. I just enjoyed the game for what is was -- the opportunity to go out there and compete day in and day out.”
The hitter has the record for most appearances in All-Star games in the Astros with a total of seven. He is also the first player form the Houston ball club to reach the 3000 hits milestone. The Astros in his honour have retired the No.7 jersey.
He is a touch nervous as the fate of his first ballot nears. Biggio is hoping for the best but for now, that is all he can do. He believes that he played the game for the love of it and if he can get a spot in the Hall of Fame, it will be a way of giving
back to the Houston Community, a place that has given him so much.
"You cross your fingers and hope for the best," Biggio said. "You hope you get that phone call. I played the game because I loved it and tried to get to the World Series and stuff like that. If it's to happen, I couldn't think of a better story than giving
it back to the people of Houston and the community.”
The hitter who has won many other awards said that it will be great if he could win it the first time.
Craig Biggio has served the game extremely well during his playing days and has proven to one and all that he is indeed a great of the game. Should he land a place in the Hall of Fame in his first ballot, it will be a thoroughly deserved one.
