Houston Astros’ Craig Biggio up for 2013 Hall of Fame Vote - MLB News
Houston Astros have yet to have a Baseball Hall of Fame inductee from the ball club. This could, however, change in 2013 with their former hitter Craig Biggio up for the vote.
Biggio will be joined by some greats of the game including other first timers such as Sammy Sosa, Mike Piazza and Barry Bonds as well as his ex-teammates including Curt Schilling and Roger Clemens. Jeff Bagwell, also a former Astros’ player, will be returning
for the vote for a third time.
The 46-year-old, who had 3060 career hits, finds it hard to believe that it has been five years since he retired. "I can't really believe it's been five years, to be honest with you," he said.
He is also confident for his ex-teammate Jeff Bagwell to come good and thinks it’s not long before he will be joining the elite group. "Baggy was a great player," Biggio said. "There's no doubt about that."
Craig’s Major League career came to an end in 2007. He is the ninth player in the history of the league to hit over 3000 hits for the same team. A father of three, Biggio is not all that anxious about the upcoming vote and he has other things on his mind
that are keeping him busy. His family is his main priority.
"I know that the busier I can stay, it will probably ease a lot of that [anticipation] rather than waiting around and thinking, 'Maybe or maybe not,'" he said. "But as my life has been over the last five years, every day is busy. I'm not a big advocate of
sitting around and waiting for a phone call that may not happen."
The right-handed hitter was also known for getting hit by the pitch. Craig was hit a total of 285 times, a modern day record and just two shy of the all time record in the Major Leagues held by Hughie Jennings. Astros in honour of Craig Biggio retired his
Number seven Jersey on May 23, 2008.
He is satisfied with whatever he did for the team. The ball club during his long association assigned him various roles both in the field and as a hitter as he was able to deliver in all conditions for the Astros. "I did everything the club asked me to do,"
Biggio said.
Craig played the game of baseball with all his heart and soul. He is an excellent example for the youngsters who are looking to take up the game or are a part of it already. He has shown consistency and intent in his way of playing baseball. Craig Biggio
is indeed someone worthy of a place in the Hall of Fame and is a true role model.
