Houston Astros’ Eduardo Perez confident for future success - MLB News
Eduardo Perez, the newly hired bench coach of the Houston Astros has expressed his delight on the opportunity to work with manager Bo Porter. The 43-year-old is currently managing the Columbian team, which is bidding to qualify for the World Baseball Classic
in Panama.
Eduardo believes that the coaching staff is well placed and under Bo Porter, they will perform well.
"I really believe we have a good coaching staff," Perez said. "Bo, I think, is going to be great. He's got a lot of energy. He's a baseball man. He's really hungry to get out there. That's the type of energy we all need to feed of off, and it's going to
be phenomenal to work under."
The Astros are in a rebuilding phase at the moment after 107 game losing season in 2012. They have recently made many changes to the coaching staff including hiring Perez, Dennis Martinez, Dave Trembley and John Mallee on the coaching staff where as Doug
Brocail and Dave Clark was maintained.
Eduardo will be in close contact with Bo as a bench coach and will have a chance to understand Porter’s strategies. The bench coach was confident that he will provide the manager with any kind of assistance that he may need.
"I'm going to be a second set of eyes," Perez said. "Everything he needs off the field, when it comes to numbers or when it comes to being two or three innings ahead, I'm going to be there for him."
Perez has played in the Major Leagues for 13-years and was associated with six different ball clubs. He also has been part of the coaching staff and remained the hitting coach of the Miami Marlins where he replaced his fellow Astros’ coach John Mallee and
was also a special assistant for the front desk operations.
He managed the Ponce Lions in the Puerto Rican Winter League with some success where he won Manager of the Year Award in 2008 and his team lifted the Caribbean Series in 2009.
Perez is also keeping an eye on the future. He has been following the Arizona Fall League and has been tracking the performances by the players in the AFL.
"I'm watching every day what the young players are doing in the Arizona Fall League and keeping tabs on that, keeping tabs on how much better the system is," he said. The bench coach also mentioned that the Astros have already signed a great future prospect
such as Carlos Correa and they are looking to sign more, albeit with patience.
Eduardo Perez will certainly have a crucial role in the upcoming season for the Astros. By the look of things, Perez should have a great partnership with manager Bo Porter and the duo should be vital in bringing the Astros back to winning ways.
