Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve eager for upcoming baseball season - MLB News
Houston Astros’ second baseman Jose Altuve is well rested and all set to go for the upcoming Spring Training for his team to take place in Florida. The 22-year-old played 147 games in the 2012 season and posed impressive returns of .290 batting average,
on-base percentage of .340 with 167 hits, 37 RBI’s as he went long on seven occasions.
He was recently a part of a coaching clinic conducted under the CAREavan. The 5ft 5in player was wearing the new blue and orange jersey that will be worn by the Astros in the coming season.
Originally from Maracay, Venezuela, Jose was unfortunate to miss out on an opportunity to represent his native country in the World Baseball Classic that kicks off in the first week of March. He takes pride in playing for his country and knows how close
he was to making it to the event for his country. He hopes that he will be getting a chance in future events.
"I would have liked to play with the Venezuela team," Altuve said. "That's something every player wants to do. I was almost on the final roster. They cut me out at the end. Maybe I'll have some more opportunities in the next few years, but I expect the best
from the team."
Jose is excited about the changes around him that have taken place in the Astros’ ranks. The team has a new manager, a new look and is moving to a new league in 2013. He hopes to have a good year which will be something of a change for the Astros considering
their recent form.
"I'm excited because it's a new year, new uniforms, new league, new manager, so I expect to have a good year and help this team," Altuve said.
Altuve believes that the Astros have a capable team which can compete with all the opponents in the highly competitive American League West. This is the spirit the team’s management will be demanding from its players to perform in the upcoming season.
"We have a good team to go to the American League and battle with every single team," he said.
He knows the importance of Spring Training and hopes that the players can get going on the field as well as get along during the stint which will be beneficial during the regular season.
The spirits of this youngster are high and despite being doubted by the critics, he has done well and has proven his worth. It’s a good sign for the Houston Astros who will need a lot of inspiration to lock horns with some of the strongest baseball teams
in the Major League in the 2013 season.
