Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve survives serious injury scare - MLB News
Second baseman Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros survived a scare in his team’s Monday night loss against the Detroit Tigers when he collided with Jimmy Paredes going for a catch on a fly ball. However, despite a slightly dislocated jaw, Jose seems to be
in high spirits and all set to continue his season without any time off.
The going for the Astros is already tough and this could have been a catastrophic event had the second baseman been seriously injured in the collision.
Jose is feeling quite well and feels that he should be able to play the upcoming games without any delay. He said that there is still some pain but he is feeling better.
"I feel decent and a little pain in the moment," Altuve said, "But right now, I feel better. Tomorrow [I think] I'm going to feel OK. We'll see [tomorrow] if I'm going to play, but I have a feeling I'm going to feel really good tomorrow."
The event took place when both the fielders went after the same fly ball and were unable to communicate in time. Altuve feels that they both perhaps called for it at the same time and therefore were unable to move out of each other’s way. He is glad though
that no serious injury took place.
"I couldn't listen to him when he called for the ball," Altuve said. "I think we were calling [for it at] the same time. You know, that happens, but I think we're going to be OK."
It is not surprising that Jose was unable to take any more part in the game. It was another disappointing game for the Houston ballclub who have just won 10 games and have already lost 29.
The 23-year-old is in his third season of Major League Baseball and has been rather productive this year with an impressive .333 batting average and a .371 on-base percentage. He has so far gotten 51 hits and has batted in 18 runs in 38 ballgames.
Manager for the Astros’ Bo Porter said that the player did get a hit but he seems to be confident that he can make an immediate comeback and play in the next game. There is still some soreness of his jaw but it appears to be doing better.
"He was dinged up, had a little soreness on the side of his jaw, but he told me -- he goes, 'Skipper, I'm playing tomorrow.' So I think he'll be fine," Porter said.
Jose Altuve’s playing ability is certainly needed by the Astros who are struggling yet again during the regular season. He can perform well and can be a big help in boosting the mood of the team that is not moving in the right direction at the moment.
