Houston Astros’ Vice President of Marketing Kathleen Clark resigns - MLB News
Houston Astros’ vice president of marketing and strategy Kathleen Clark resigned from her position on Tuesday. She was associated for the Astros for nine months and will now be returning to Carta Marketing Strategies and Solutions.
Kathleen, who joined the Astros in March of 2012, oversaw media relations, broadcasting, in-game entertainment, brand and marketing services, fan engagement, digital media, club’s public relations and the Astros in Action Foundation as well as other community
services by the Houston ball club.
Clark is an intelligent marketer, who sought input from the fans who held season tickets for the Houston Astros during the club’s rebranding period. She was instrumental in the ‘’Root Root Root’’ campaign run by the Astros. The 2013 slogan for the team,
“it’s a whole new ball game” was also coined with Kathleen at the helm of affairs.
The slogan underlines the many changes Astros have made from uniform designs, staff and moving to the American League. Most of all, it represents a whole new attitude towards the game, a much needed change for the downwards spiralling Houston Astros.
The rebranding went quite well and had a wide acceptance of the team’s new look as the return of the former mascot Orbit was received. The event was slightly affected by leaks of certain products before time due to a mistake by one of the partner stores
of the Astros.
Kathleen was praised by Jim Crane, the owner of the Astros for her good work during a rebranding phase of the team. "The Houston Astros would like to thank Kathleen Clark for her work on the successful first season campaign, strengthening the marketing staff,
and the successful launch of new logo, identity and uniforms," Jim Crane said. “The Astros’ Nov. 2 launch party was attended by over 5,000 fans. Response from fans has been extremely positive with the ‘nod to the past,’ while moving the Astros to their new
home in the American League.”
Although Kathleen Clark will no longer be with the Astros in an official capacity for the club, she could still be providing services to them as a strategic partner. George Postolos, the club’s president also hoped that Astros will maintain some sort of
relationship with Kathleen Clark.
“We look forward to continuing to work with Kathleen in a strategic capacity while she returns to her successful marketing consulting business,” Postolos said.
Although Kathleen Clark had a short stint with the Astros, she did provide them with some very important services at a time when the club was looking to redefine its identity. She has done a great job for the Astros in doing just that and certainly the good
work will go a long way in raising the image of the team.
