Houston Astros beat Colorado Rockies 6-3 at the Coors Field – MLB news
Houston Astros beat the Colorado Rockies 6-3 at the Coors Field on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 to go one up in the two-game interleague series.
It was a different  game from what was witnessed in the series at the Minute Maid Park as both teams had to play out of their skins to win the a game each by single run margins. That changed in Denver which is traditionally considered to be hitter friendly.
Things got underway with a sacrifice fly by Astros’ hitter Matt Dominguez to help J.D. Martinez score in the top of the second innings. Rockies got back on level terms when Troy Tulowitzki went long to the right field in the bottom of the fourth innings.
Troy then scored an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to give the Rockies a one-run lead. It was short lived and a sacrifice fly by Jason Castro in the sixth allowed Brandon Barnes to score.
Rockies moved forward in the eighth innings to take the lead courtesy of an RBI single by J.D. Martinez who appears to be more and more reliable for the Astros these days.
Bo Porter, the Astros manager, was pleased by the show by J.D. Martinez in the game and felt that is playing a crucial role in team’s recent success.
“This guy’s a run producer. He’s one of those guys that when there’s RBIs out there, he smells them,” Bo Porter said. “He smells them and he’s put together some of his best at-bats with men in scoring position.”
Jordan Pacheco was ground out in the bottom of the eighth innings with first and seconded bases loaded. Travis Blackley had walked Dexter Fowler and Todd Helton and almost let the grip of the game before Hector Ambriz got rid of Jordan.
Three runs in the top of the ninth for the Houston ballclub left them with a four run cushion in the last innings. Troy hit his second long ball of the game but that was about all the Rockies could do in the ninth as far as scoring in concerned, allowing
the Astros a second win in three games.
