Houston Astros’ broadcaster Jim Deshaies mulling a move to Chicago Cubs - MLB News

Former Houston Astros’ pitcher Jim Deshaies, who is currently a broadcaster covering their games is considering a move to Chicago as an analyst. Jim is a candidate for the spot left vacant by Bob Brenly in WGN and CSN Chicago, who took a broadcasting job
for Arizona Diamondbacks, his former team.
Deshaies is not the only candidate for the job though, as per the CSN Chicago website and the list includes Eric Karros, Todd Hollandsworth, Rick Sutcliffe and Gary Matthews.
Jim is not certain if he will make the switch and did not place a time frame as to when the final decision in the matter would be made. He is not completely closed to the idea of continuing in Houston and said it was a possibility.
"I’m comfortable that if this didn’t come up, I would get something done with the Astros," he said. Deshaies is under contract with Houston until the end of February 2013.
Jim had a Major League career than span from 1984 to 1995. During this period, the left-handed pitcher was a part of seven different ball clubs. Houston Astros was the only team for which he had a long stint, playing with the team for seven seasons, making
26 or more starts in every one of them. Dishaies had an 84-95 career record.
The 52-year-old is not sure whether he will get a call up from Chicago or not at this point in time. Jim said he did not want to think too far ahead for now. “I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself. There’s no guarantee the Cubs are going to make an
offer, and there are other guys they are talking to,” he said.
He also dispelled the impression that he was desperate to move away from the Astros and that the ball club was taking the heat incorrectly. Jim has been working as a broadcaster since 1997 with the Astros after retiring as a player. The coverage rights for
the Houston Astros will go to CSN Houston, which were previously with Fox Houston.
The president of the Astros’ George Postolos also wants Jim to be a part of the team in the coming season. "I spoke with George at the end of the year, and he was reassuring and said we like your work and we want you back," Deshaies said.
Some suggest that a move by Jim Deshaies could well be a public relations disaster for the ball club that is already struggling on the field of play. There has been talk that Jim was not offered a contract by Comcast or the Astros.
One will have to wait and see whether the veteran broadcaster will get an offer from Chicago and whether he will accept it. His style which has a bit of humor and satire in it will certainly be missed by the Astros’ fans if he becomes a member of the Cubs’
broadcasting team.
