Houston Astros’ catcher Jason Castro ready for action – MLB News
The Houston Astros’ catcher Jason Castro has stated that he has made enough progress to formally start playing. The player who was unable to appear in any of the 2011 regular season games for his team due to a serious injury is expected to finally be part
of the Astros in the coming season.
Talking to the media, the player who has undergone foot surgery a couple of months ago, Jason Castro also commented that he has been doing well on the rehab and physical therapy is ahead of schedule as far as the healing is concerned.
"I've been really happy so far," Castro said. "I've been doing quite a bit of work on the rehab, physical therapy side, and the whole healing process and everything has actually gone really well. I'm pretty much ahead of schedule as far as the way it's been
healing and the progress I've made in my rehab and everything."
The operation that he underwent was to actually remove a bone from his foot. He had injured it while participating in the Arizona Fall League. The seriousness of the injury rendered him unable to play any longer in the whole season.
Castro remains a dependable catcher of the team for quite some time now. He was the first-round Draft pick for the Houston Astros back in 2008. The player is expected to appear in Spring Training as he gets his fitness and form back.
There is understandably an excitement and eagerness for Spring Training. Not only will he be instrumental in strengthening the team, it will be a chance for him to practically demonstrate the tremendous talent that he has.
"It's been a real long year," he said. "I'm real excited. I'm sure every year everyone says they're excited, but for me this year, it's a little different. I really can't wait to get going because of everything I went through last year. It's a little bit
special for me coming off last year.”
Nonetheless, the Houston Astros do not want to take any risk. While the player still has to be perfectly fit for competing in the complete season, the club has got Chris Snyder in their fold. He has been signed for a year provided Castro does not retain
his complete fitness.
Humberto Quintero will be another player available for the Astros as catcher. As the Astros do not want to limit their options, they now have a list of players available to them for playing on a catcher’s position.
Having played six games so far, Castro has an average of .205 having hit two homers with eight RBIs to his credit in 195 at-bats. The Astros will be looking to Castro to put in a good performance during the upcoming Spring Training.
