Houston Astros come from behind to beat Colorado Rockies 7-5 at Coors Field – MLB News
Houston Astros came back from behind to get the better of Colorado Rockies at their home in Denver on Thursday, May 30, 2013 winning three out of the four games played two apiece at each team’s home ballpark.
The Houston ballclub has certainly done well off late and they appear to be making some progress in improving upon the issues that they faced earlier in the season.
The game provided starting pitcher, Lucas Harrell, with a much needed win. Lucas had a four-game losing streak and the win helped him improving his win-loss record to 4-6. The pitcher gave away four runs, three
of which were earned in nearly six innings with eight hits. He was fortunate not to surrender more unearned runs, as the Astros made no less than four errors, with thereof coming in the third innings alone.
Lucas said he had a struggle during the game and it was one of those times when you grind it out. He wanted to give his team a chance to win and he did just that.
"I just battled the whole game," Harrell said. "It was one of those games we had to grind it out, and I was just trying to keep the game close and give us a chance to win.”
Astros’ Manager, Bo Porter, knew that his team got out of a jam with all the errors. Considering the game took place at the Coors Field, it was certainly possible to catch up on three runs.
"Normally when you make four errors, especially in a ballpark like this, you're looking at a bunch of crooked numbers," Porter said. "We did a good job of minimizing the damage and holding them to one run when
we had three errors in one inning."
The Colorado Rockies were ahead by three at the end of the third innings. The Astros added one in the top of the fourth before they really bludgeoned in the sixth innings.
J.D. Martinez got the scoring underway in the sixth with an RBI single. Carlos Pena than added another run to the board with another RBI single. With two bases loaded, Chris Carter went deep to give his team
a three-run lead. Matt Dominguez homered as well to get the lead to four runs.
The Rockies were able to score a couple of more runs but they were not enough to stop the Astros from winning. The loss was recorded against Juan Nicasio’s name and Hector Ambriz recorded his first save of the
season.
Astros form has been decent off late and they have had an even 7-7 win-loss record in the last 14 games. If their team can continue the good work, there is a good chance that they will post much better numbers
this season than the previous two.
