Houston Astros come from behind to beat Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 at Minute Maid Park – MLB news
Houston Astros made a resounding comeback to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 in the 10th innings on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Minute Maid Park.
Fielding errors were a plenty as Brewers erred once while the Astros had three blips in the field. The Astros committed two errors in the top of the second innings which allowed the Brewers to get no less than three runs to put them on top.
Astros’ manager Bo Porter was happy about the never say die attitude of the current team and said that after the mistakes that the guys made in the field, it was easy to bow your head downs. However, the current group of players is not like that
“If you look at the mistakes we made early, it could've been something where we held our head down, but not this group here,” Porter said. “They kept fighting and found a way to get the game tied, and then Carlos came through.”
The Astros got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth with Justin Maxwell reached home plate as Marwin Gonzalez reached first on fielder’s choice. Matt Dominguez also reached home plate despite a force out in the play.
Jonathan Lucroy got a home-run in the sixth to once again put the Brewers in front. Just when it was needed, catcher Carlos Corporan went deep into the right field to get his team on level terms. Game went into the 10th innings with scores tied at 4-4.
It was first baseman Carlos Pena who got the leadoff home-run in the bottom of the 10th innings with a three-run ball.
The win brings an end to the Astros home stand of seven games in which they had a 5-2 winning record, beating both the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago White Sox.
Carlos was excited after the game and knew that winning the home stand was very important for the team which can now carry the momentum forward on the road.
“What a ballgame,” Pena said. “What a great home stand we just had. We were in every single game and won most of them. To end the home stand in such a way like this is very powerful. It gives us a lot of momentum going forward.”
Bo Porter praised Carlos Corporan’s efforts in the game in which he did well behind the home plate and later with the home-run that tied the match for the Houston ballclub.
“Corp did a great job and called a great game,” Porter said.
It was a good win for the Astros as they now move to the road trip on the back of a strong show at home. They have been quite impressive now for the last few weeks and certainly the fans can draw a lot of confidence from that.
