Houston Astros crushed by Chicago Cubs 1-7 – MLB Recap
The Houston Astros were crushed by the Chicago Cubs 1-7 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 13 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Cubs played beautifully and earned a deserving victory. They kept the Astros under pressure and eventually proved too good for their opponents.
Cubs’ batting and pitching was far better than the Astros’ game-play.
Starter Jeff Samardzija pitched seven solid innings for the Cubs and remained top pitcher in the roster. He allowed one run and four hits. He retired eleven batters and was smashed for one homer on his consistent 4.06 ERA.
“I knew I was on a good run in (the) middle of the game, but Garza came up to me after the game and said, 'Can't get that elusive 12.' Whatever. He has a way of letting me know. If anyone is not paying attention, he is," Samardzija said with confidence and explained about his outing.
On the other hand, Houston’s starter Armando Galarraga played poorly and allowed five runs and seven hits on his five innings. He was only able to strike-out to two hitters and smashed for two homers as well on his 5.75 ERA.
"Two home runs cost me the game. Believe it or not, it was a better start than the last couple. I threw more strikes, threw everything I wanted to. I just missed those two. Soriano, it was the first pitch. He got me. The first one hurt because it was a bad pitch," Galarraga said on his performance.
Along with Galarraga, the Astros other two pitchers also could not play well. Both played under pressure and eventually lost the game against the Cubs.
Rhiner Cruz pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one run and one hit on his 7.32 ERA.
Closer Xavier Cedeno also played poorly and hit with one run and two hits. He was not able to strike-out any batters as his ERA also rose to 4.00.
The Cubs will definitely feel good about beating the Astros by six runs. The club will be looking ot carry their winning momentum forward and get more positive results.
