Houston Astros defeat Baltimore Orioles 11-7 in home-run fest at Minute Maid Park – MLB news
Houston Astros packed a real punch as they defeat Baltimore Orioles 11-7 on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Minute Maid Park in a real home-run fest.
It was some serious power hitting as both teams went hard at the opposing numbers in an attempt to gain the upper hand. The hosts were in control for most of the game and the result was certainly a fair one. Astros hit six long balls against just two from
the Orioles.
The birds got a run in the top of the first before the Astros scored four runs courtesy of two two-run home-runs by Jason Castro and Carlos Pena. The lead was further boosted in the second when Marwin Gonzalez went long.
The Astros scored four runs with three home-runs in the bottom of the fourth. The O’s made a comeback with three runs each in the seventh and the eighth innings but were unable to make a strong enough comeback to win.
Dallas Keuchel, the starting pitcher for the Astros, won his third game of the season. He was pleased that the batters did a great job and took the pressure of him. He confessed that his command was not as good in the game.
“The offense took a lot a pressure off me,” Keuchel said. “I really didn't feel too good today command-wise, but after Castro hit that home run in the first, I kind of took a step back and said, ‘All right, just buckle down and try to get some quality outs.’”
Bo Porter, manager for the Astros was quite happy at the win and liked what he described as some old fashioned baseball. He was full of praise for the Baltimore guys who did not give in after taking serious pounding in the start and were able to make a contest
out of the game.
“That's what you call good old-fashioned American League baseball,” Porter said. “I tell you what, that's a good ballclub they have over there. To battle the way they battled after getting down early, that's a credit to their guys and Buck Showalter and
his staff.”
It was a great win for the Astros who have now won seven of their last eight games. The team appears to have broken away from the troubles form the previous couple of seasons as well as the early parts of 2013 season.
