Houston Astros defeat Baltimore Orioles 14-8 – MLB Update
First baseman Brett Wallace and second baseman Bill Hall both outclassed the Baltimore Orioles and took the Houston Astros to a 14-8 victory at Ed Smith Stadium in Florida on March 15.
Wallace, who is competing for first base position, presented impressive form hitting seven runs including one home-run in five at-bats. Bill Hall accompanied Wallace in home-run leading Astros to 14-8 triumph over Orioles in their Grapefruit League game.
It seems as if the Astros have learned from their past 14 defeats because they shined in every aspect of game including pitches. Right-handed pitcher Aneury Rodriguez, who made his fourth appearance and second start, did not consumed more than one run while
he struck-out one batter. Jordan Lyles, Enerio Del Rosario and Casey Fien remained scoreless while they struck five batters in combine.
Jason Bourgeois joined, with his three runs on four hits making 17-hit record, the road established by Wallace and Hall. Adrian Sanchez also contributed two runs in two at-bats. However, one player who impressed Houston manager Brad Mills was Wallace as
he said, "I can't say enough about Wally today he really swung the bat well. He's always been a hitter, and he's always been able to make those adjustments. He came into camp swinging the bat very well."
Sergio Escalona and Lance Pendleton both were expensive as they allowed seven runs striking-out just two batters.
Jake Fox posted a homer to provide a small lead in the second inning to Baltimore, but it could not retain for long as Houston made three runs in fourth inning opening their account that did not stop and ended on 14 runs.
Brad Bergesen failed to maintain his previous form and consumed three runs including one home-run in four innings. He has 8-12 record with 4.98 ERA striking-out 81 in 28 starts last year.
"I made a couple adjustments these last few days with Goose (pitching Coach Mark Connor) and I was just trying to work on those," Bergesen said. "I was working more on my sinker. I was really actually happy with how I threw my sinker today. I got in a little
jam and gave up the big hit, but overall, there were a lot of positives to take out of today."
Kevin Gregg allowed five runs for the Orioles including one homer posted by Wallace. Ryan Drese followed the same form, as did Gregg allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings.
The Astros will face their next game against Washington Nationals. Astros has scheduled Brett Myers, to start the game against Nationals’ Ross Detwiler. It will be interesting to see how the Astros carry their confidence and winning momentum into their next
game.
