Houston Astros defeat Chicago Cubs, 12-7 – MLB Update
Houston Astros’ batters had an extraordinary day right through the game as they posted runs with continuous intervals to give the Astros an incredible 12-7 victory against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Chicago on May 30.
The first inning was full of scoring opportunities for both sides as the Astros scored two and the Cubs posted three runs to move the score-card 3-2. For the Astros, Hunter Pence doubled to deep right-centre and Michael Bourn scored one run. The second run
was taken by Pence on the drive off Jeff Keppinger towards centre-field.
On the other side, Carlos Pena struck a home run (381 feet) to right-field while Darwin Barney and Starlin Castro both contributed two runs. The Cubs got a 4-2 lead in the second inning when Tony Campana stole third base and scored a single run. Both teams
added one run in the third inning and took the score-board 5-3. Carlos Lee singled to right-centre and Bourn posted a run for the Astros.
Blake DeWitt drove a triple-run shot towards deep right-centre and Aramis Ramirez added one run for the Cubs during the third inning. The Cubs extended their lead 6-3 in the fourth inning when Kosuke Fukudome posted a single run on the error of the Astros’
right-fielder Pence. The game was tied 6-all in the fifth inning with a three-run contribution of the Astros’ batters.
Bourn scored his third run of the game while Pence homered (417 feet) towards the left-centre and Clint Barmes struck a home-run (380 feet) to left-field. Barmes said of his game, “We're just staying positive and making things happen. We're putting stuff
together and getting clutch hits in big situations. It was definitely a game that was needed for us.”
During the sixth inning the Astros broke the tie and got a 7-6 lead when J.R. Towles hit a solo homer (383 feet) to left-field. In the seventh inning, the Astros pushed their lead 9-6 by adding two more runs. Pence and Brett Wallace scored these two runs
for the Astros. Eighth inning was score-less for both sides.
The score-board moved to 12-7 in the ninth inning as the Astros blasted three runs and the Cubs were able to add one run. Keppinger homered (389 feet) to left-field while Pence and Lee posted two runs jointly for the Astros. Castro scored the final run of
the game when Pena was grounded out to first base.
