Houston Astros defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 – MLB Recap
The Houston Astros defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 in their first game of three-match regular series encounter on Friday, May 11, at PNC Park, Pittsburgh in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Both teams’ starters played good and never allowed any batter to play them easy however, the Astros pitcher got more praise as he was with the winning team.
Astros starting pitcher Bud Norris was brilliant on the mound with his fast and curving throws as he struck out eight along with no walk and three hits in his six innings.
“I know even bases loaded, nobody out, I've just got to attack one hitter at a time and stick with (catcher Jason) Castro really well, and I made the pitches and get out of it, It was exciting, and enough for us to hold on." said Norris, who achieved consistent stats in his second consecutive game.
On the other hand, the Pittsburgh starting pitcher James McDonald played his part too as he performed wonderfully and went with four hits along with one run and eight strikeouts.
McDonald said with confidence, "It's part of the game," "I've been that guy on the mound when I've gotten shelled. ... They did what I asked them for today and played hard behind me."
The game’s only score was scored by right fielder Bogusevic which ultimately proved the winning factor for the Houston Astros.
After the game Astros manager Brad Mills said for his team’s win, "There's a lot of good arms down there, a lot of good guys, a lot of good pitchers, They're working well together.”
With this particular win, the Astros have now improved their winning record at home 10-8 as well as winning percentage of .469. Their overall record is also improving with total 15-17 win loss.
The Pirates however, having some difficult times with their 14-18 win loss as well as inconsistent winning percentage of .438. The Pirates are currently one place behind Houston in the National League Central.
In the meanwhile, both teams have a fair chance in this season as they performed wonderfully in this year’s Spring Training.
