Houston Astros down Kansas City Royals in a tight 6-5 finish at Minute Maid Park – MLB news
Houston Astros downed the Kansas City Royals in a close contest winning by a margin of 6-5 at the Minute Maid Park on Monday, May 20, 2013. The win improves the home team’s season record to 13-32.
Houston Astros and the Kansas City Royals were neck to neck at the end of two innings with both teams having a single run on board.
The situation, however, changed in the second innings when the Astros added another two runs to take the lead of 3-1. The scoring was done courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Jose Altuve and a solo home-run by Jason Castro.
The Royals came back strongly in the fourth with the help for a three-run long ball by Miguel Tejada. The Astros responded in kind and scored their own three-run homer courtesy of Matt Dominguez.
The Royals made a late effort to stage a comeback and were able to cut the lead to a single run in the eight with an RBI double by Jeff Francoeur. They were, however, unable to get the tying run and the Astros sealed the game.
The win was picked by Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel. This was his fourth win of his career and his first win of the season. Dallas did allow 13 base runners during the game but was able to keep the damage in check with the help of some good fielding.
The 25-year-old allowed four walk and nine hits and gave away four earned runs in nearly seven innings. He was also able to record a personal best of six strike outs in 81 career starts in 83 games. Jose Veras recorded his seventh save for the season.
Jeremy Guthrie, the ace pitcher for the Royals recorded his second loss for the season, still maintaining a strong 5-2 record thus far in the season.
The Houston ballclub has recently shown a decent form and have been able to win a few games. They will need to remain consistent and bridge the gap between the number of wins and losses.
Expecting miracles at this point in time from the Astros will not be a wise thing but the team certainly has the ability to show some fight and improve their overall performance this year.
