Houston Astros edge Chicago White Sox 5-4 at Minute Maid Park – MLB news
Houston Astros edged Chicago White Sox 5-4 at the Minute Maid Park to secure the four game series 3-0 on Sunday, June 16, 2013. This is the third four game series win for the Astros consecutively.
The Astros went ahead in the second innings with a three-run RBI double by Matt Dominguez. The White Sox were able to cut the lead by a single run when Alex Ramirez had a sacrifice fly.
Another RBI single came to the Chicago ballclub courtesy of Jeff Keppinger’s line drive. Jason Castro got the Astros back on top with a two-run home-run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jose Veras came for the save with a sold three runs lead and was able to cling on after giving two runs away. Veras made 14th save of the season.
Dallas Keuchel pitched for little over six innings to record his fourth win of the season. He was mostly trouble free until he gave a run each in the sixth and seventh innings.
Dallas was himself quite pleased with the performance and said that he felt good during the practice before the game. He found it tough in the start but was able to get into his zone afterwards.
“I felt really good in the bullpen before the game, so I kind of figured I'd be alright,” Keuchel said. “The first few innings are always tough, but I knew after I got through it, if I made my pitches I'd be good.”
Catcher Jason Castro played an important role in the win with his two-run homer in the seventh. He has taken the designated hitter role every now and again which allows him to get some rest when it gets tough on the body. He feels that he is feeling fresh
since he catches a break every now and again from the duties in the field.
“It's kept me sharp, focused consistently,” Castro said. “I maintain the at-bats and that freshness while breaking up the catching stuff.”
Astros manager Bo Porter is also on the cloud nine with the recent good show that has seen Astros win the last four games. He is looking forward to keep it going.
“Whenever you're on a streak, you want to do whatever we can to keep it going, playing like we're playing,” said Porter. “We've put ourselves in a position to win four straight against a team, and that's a strong statement.”
Houston Astros are moving nicely in the highly competitive American League West. Although they are not serious contenders for the post-season, it is crucial that they continue the good work and rise from the dungeons of the Major League.
On current form, they are all set to win more than 62 games required to avoid a hundred losses in a season for the third consecutive season.
