Houston Astros edge past Cincinnati Reds 5-3 – MLB Recap
The Houston Astros edge past the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 on Sunday, June 3 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter at Minute Maid Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Though the Astros won the Sunday’s game, but it was no use as they had already lost the series 2-0 on Saturday when they were defeated by the Reds in second consecutive game with one game to spare.
Starter Jordan Lyles proved wonderful for the Astros as he remained confident on the mound for seven innings.
He allowed two runs and five hits with two earned runs and one homer. These stats clearly suggest Lyles’ wonderful skills which he has been showing since the start of the season. Maintaining his 4.97 ERA, the youngster is proving his place in the roster.
"It's not easy (when you) give another major league team a three or four spot in the first inning, I had to really bear down from the get-go and not try to hold anything back or save anything. My main focus was to get through that first inning." Lyles said
on his performance and about the contribution he made in Astros win.
Later in the game, the Houston manager Brad Mills also said for starter’s great contribution in his team’s win, "What an effort from Jordan Lyles. That was absolutely outstanding, He came right out and shut that down and started making pitches right away.
It can give a calming effect to him maybe, some consistency knowing he's going to get another start."
Though the Astros had already lost the series, but they still came with big energy and kept their opponents under pressure throughout the game and eventually won it with style.
With this win, the Astros have snatched the fifth spot from the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division with the winning percentage of .426 along with 23-31 win loss record.
On the other hand, the Reds, despite losing this particular game, carrying a healthy .566 winning percentage along with 30-23 win-loss record and are at top in the National League Central.
