Houston Astros go for first big changes in club’s policy – MLB News
As the Houston Astros witnessed a big changing of the guard last year with the ownership going to Jim Crane, the updates have started coming the club’s way. The Houston Astros announced several measures in this regard on Monday, January 23, which are expected
to woo the fans to the club.
Houston Astros were initially expected to have a top-to-bottom approach, whereby the managerial and coaching staff will be changed. Add to it the necessity to fill up the 40-man roster for the new season.
However, as it turned out on Monday, there were some other previously unexpected, or cautiously anticipated, changes that will now have their impact on the club. First and foremost in this regard, the price of more than five thousand seats has been lowered.
Secondly, the fans shall have the permission to bring in food if they deem necessary coupled with beverages. All the same, the decision-making body has also decided to make beer available at the price that can be afforded by the fans.
For the new owner, it is the right thing to do. This is understandable given the fact that fans play an important role in determining the team’s success; both in the support that they provide and the financial sustenance that comes through tickets and others
of that ilk.
"We feel this is the right thing to do," Crane said. "It is a way for us to let our fans know how vital they are to our success, and to let them know we've been listening to them."
While these steps are really laudable and will necessarily be received with admiration and appreciation, the club is also mulling over the uniform change. But that will certainly take a while before a decision pertaining to it takes practical effect.
As much these changes are considerable, there were some indications that the team may also weigh changing the name of the team. But Crane dismisses that. "We haven't said we're going to do it," Crane said. "Don't jump to any conclusions."
Houston Astros shall descend on the ballpark with a new outlook come the new season. For now, all the focus will be on spring training.
