Houston Astros happy over Jamie Quirk's move to Chicago Cubs – MLB News
The Houston Astros’ manager Brad Mills said on Tuesday, November 29, that he was happy for Jamie Quirk to get the opportunity to serve as bench coach in the Chicago Cubs. He also stated that the Astros will first look and hire a general manager before deciding
on the possible candidates for the coaching staff.
Although it has significantly created a vacuum in the Astros, the club vows that they will fill it soon enough. The Astros are undergoing a visible change, reshuffling the entire hierarchy after it was taken over by a new owner, the Houston businessman Jim
Crane.
The first move to be carried out was the dismissal of the president of baseball operations Tal Smith and the general manager Ed Wade, a move that might have taken many observers to go into shock. But Crane had also expressed his resolve to make very, very
quick adjustments.
As Jamie Quirk left the club to join the Chicago Cubs as bench coach, the serving manager Brad Mills stated that the Astros will first look for a general manager before taking into account who is to come as the coach.
He expressed his happiness for Quirk. "I'm very happy for him to get this opportunity," Mills said.
Mills spoke about Quirk and the possibilities of why he had to switch to the Chicago Cubs at the end. Quirk had previously remained the bench coach for the Colorado Rockies from 2003 to 2008.
"He was in a situation where after he was let go from the Rockies, he wanted to get back on the field, but was not able to for a year and jumped at the opportunity to come with us and get back on the field, and he did a good job," Mills said.
With this decision, the Astros will now have another hole to fill. The Astros had previously said that the new change in hierarchy has prompted the need to make an entirely fresh start in baseball operations; something that will, in the long run help the
club regain their distinction.
