Houston Astros lose to Detroit Tigers 2-6 – MLB News
Houston Astros took an embarrassing 2-6 loss against the Detroit Tigers Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, May 14 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers, once again, showed the stuff they are capable of. Tigers’ pitching rotation in particular played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Starting pitcher Doug Fister created all sorts of problems for the Astros’ batting lineup, striking
out batters at regular intervals.
The left hander produced another excellent performance as he allowed just five hits and two runs in seven solid innings to claim another superb victory. With his win, Fister also improved his win-loss record to 5-1 and it will be interesting to see if he
can continue his excellent form in the upcoming games to give himself a good chance of winning the American League Most Valuable Player Award.
"It's good for the team," Kelly said. "All you want to do is win, and any way you can help out is big."
"You don't want to be the last out. You want to keep going," Santiago said. "Those RBIs with two outs, they are big."
"We're trying some new things with our defense, and I thought they worked against me tonight," Harrell said. "The ball that Dirks hit was up there forever, and I thought someone might have caught that one. He hit it hard, and that's my fault, but I was hoping
someone would get there."
Relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit also made his presence felt as he pitched the perfect eighth and closer Jose Valverde tossed up the scoreless ninth to give Tigers another important win in front of their home crowd.
J.D. Martinez provided the Astros with a perfect start as he doubled to left in the second inning to put his side on the board but the night belong to the Tigers who came back strongly to record another important win in American League Central Division.
The 2012 AL MVP Miguel Cabrera was the star of the show as he smacked a solo home run to left in the seventh to wrap up an impressive win for his side.
