Houston Astros lose to Philadelphia Phillies 1-5 – MLB Recap
The Houston Astros lost to Philadelphia Phillies 1-5 in the first game of their two-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 14 at Citizen Bank Park, Philadelphia in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Starter Joe Blanton put up a good show and played wonderfully for the Phillies and won the first game after defeating the San Diego Padres a day ago.
Blanton pitched for seven innings and allowed six hits and one run. He remained calm and kept his cool during the entire game winning a deserted game for the Phillies.
"He got there pretty easy, He's pitching real good." The Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of Blanton.
Later Blanton said for his own performance and about the level of his recent condition, "Physically, I feel better than I have in a couple years and mechanically, too, I'm having fun with the game again. You feel like a kid again after missing so much time. It's nice to be out there and contribute to help us win games."
Third baseman Placido Polanco also played well for the Phillies and contributed a homer in his team’s win.
"It means a lot, means I've been around for a while, However, I'm not thinking about that. I'm trying to win games and hopefully a championship." said Polanco.
Astros starter right-hander Lucas Harrell could not hold on to his fast throwing and gave three runs and five hits during his 5.2 innings.
After the game Harrell commented in the media, “I was pretty frustrated. That's the best I've thrown the ball all year, hands down.”
From start until it was finished, the entire game was dominated by the Phillies who eventually took the game away in style. The only run scored by Astros was from their pinch hitter Marwin Gonzalez who struck a homer in the eighth inning.
The next game in scheduled on Tuesday, May 15 and the Phillies once again are looking in good spirit to take the game as well series away.
The Phillies are at the bottom in the National League East with 17-19 win-loss record and if they do able to win the next game, their winning percentage of .472 will increase towards better beginning.
