Houston Astros lose to St. Louis Cardinals 1-4 – MLB Recap
Houston Astros lost to St. Louis Cardinals 1-4 in first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, September 18 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Kyle Lohse played well and earned the welcome victory in the series. He pitched seven innings and did not receive any run as he struck-out five on his 2.71 ERA.
He played offensively and never let the Astros' batters to dominate them which proved one of the winning factors for the Cardinals.
"That looked like a Hall of Fame swing, didn't it? It says .100 up there I'm just glad it's there instead of lower. A positive thing is when it's in the 80s it doesn't go down much every time you make out," Lohse said on his outing which never let the Astros to play freely during his entire spell.
Lohse has also been performing consistently and showing his true class in this Major League season. While some experts are also speculating in the media that he might win this year’s National League Cy Young honours.
"He was in position to have many more wins than 15 right now, He's thriving on being that guy for us, to really set the bar for the rest of the starters, If we would have been able to hold some of the leads that he had, there's no question he'd be right the top of that mix,” St. Louis Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny said on his starter’s contribution which landed his team a great win.
Along with Cardinals’ starter Lohse, reliever Mitchell Boggs also played well and contributed in his team’s win.
He pitched 0.2 innings and received one run and three hits on his consistent 2.43 ERA. He struck-out one Astros' hitter and remained calm on the mound during his spell.
On the other hand, the Houston Astros' pitchers did not play well and lost the game with bitter disgrace.
Fernando Abad started the game for the Astros as he pitched three runs and six hits. He struck-out six while his ERA rose to 5.11 with blistering pace which proved disastrous in the end.
