Houston Astros manager Bo Porter honoured with key to Essex County in Newark – MLB Update
Houston Astros current manager Bo Porter has been given a key to Essex County in Newark honouring him for becoming the first Essex County native to manage a Major League team in recent times.
“Today is exceptionally rewarding to me because I have watched Bo Porter mature and grow from the time played Little League baseball with our All-Star team that traveled to Puerto Rico to being the first Essex County resident chosen to lead an professional
baseball team,” Essex County executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. said in a media statement.
He added with more detail, “He persevered throughout his career and to be the first Essex County resident named as manager of a Major League team is quite an honor.”
This is a huge honour for Bo Porter to receive such an appreciation from his native town where he grew, studied and proved as future Major League professional.
As a Major League player, Porter played for the Chicago Cubs along with Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers. Though his career was short but he still proved his game. Later he started his career with a different path and joined the Florida Marlins as a coach.
From then-onwards, he started concentrating on coaching and proved his offensive game plans with Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals as well.
Now for the first time, he has been given the Astros all important job. He was brought in as manager in October and looking at his past experience, experts believe that he will be a great addition in Houston’s baseball side.
“You take a step back, and you really realize just how special it is, It’s like I told Jeff and I told Jim: This is not a steppingstone for me,” Porter said after appointed as Astros manager during an introductory news conference at Minute Maid Park. Astros
general manager Jeff Luhnow and owner/chairman Jim Crane are also planning to give him free hand to prepare a solid roster. The Astros performance was quite demeaning in the last Major League outing but now with inclusion of a good experienced campaigner,
the chances are high that Houston Astros will produce some consistent results.
