Houston Astros manager Brad Mills talks about team after 5-1 win against Philadelphia Phillies
The Houston Astros were on the brink of the worse defeat tally ever. The Philadelphia Phillies, on the other hand, were on the verge of qualifying for the post season playoffs. The situation however took a wild turn as the Astros pummelled the Phillies 5-1
on Monday, September 12 at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The home team’s manager, Brad Mills, had a lot to talk about.
The skipper was proud of his team that availed a crucial win in the fourth and final game of the series. The team wanted to break the Phillies bid for clean sweep and they did so due to Brett Myers amazing stint on the mound, J. D. Martinez’s three run scoring
rally and Carlos Lee’s two run homer.
Roy Oswalt could have easily proved to be a thorn for the Astros but the manager saw his hitters take care of him while Myers pitched his best with eight innings. Things looked different early on in the second inning when the Phillies went 1-0 up with a
Raul Ibanez run from Pete Orr’s single. Things however changed as the Houston club smashed five runs in response. The manager was in full praise for Myers.
"Early in the game, when they got some runners in scoring position, he was able to make some pitches to get them out of that, and that was really huge," Mills said. "Then he kind of settled down after that and really made pitches and really stopped them
from getting things going, even after we got going."
The skipper also pointed out Lee’s two run homer which provided a massive boost to the hitting mentality of the team.
"Carlos was able to hit that home run, which was big, but this ballclub hasn't had a whole lot of home runs," Mills said.
With a good win, many Astros fans will hope the team ends the season with series victories in the coming days. The team will be definitely feeling a confidence boost as they managed to put in a tremendous performance and beat the powerful Phillies.
