Houston Astros pleased to sign Philip Humber – MLB Update
The Houston Astros are showing their delight over signing former Chicago White Sox ace starter Philip Humber. Their fans have already started a big roar over his potential talents to deliver what is required at crucial stages of the game.
Known for his “perfect games”, Humber is highly talented player and will be providing the White Sox some aggression. He last played for the White Sox and showed consistency on the mound. He finished with 6.44 ERA along with 5-5 win loss record, 85 strike-outs and 1.54 WHIP.
Overall his 4.87 career ERA along with 16-15 win-loss, 236 strike-outs and 1.37 WHIP also makes him a good role player in the league. Started his career with the New York Mets, Humber wentto play for the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox.
“Last year was a huge learning experience for me. … I kind of got bogged down mentally a little bit about baseball and really couldn’t get out of that rut, But you learn more from the hard times than from the good times, It’s something you think about breaking into professional baseball: ‘Oh man, it’d be cool to play for a team close to home,'” said Humber, who lives with his family in Tyler.
“As soon as we saw his name on the (waiver) wire, we knew what we were going to do. … We think he’s potentially a real solid piece of our rotation next year,” said Astros' general manager Jeff Luhnow.
Earlier news came out in the media that White Sox might retain him for the next Major League Baseball season but Robin Ventura, the current manager of White Sox, did not support retaining him for another season.
Now with the Astros, his new beginning will give him more confidence to show off his skills. According to some experts, Humber is one of those unfortunate Major League pitchers who has never been able to get a long term contract with any leading team.
From his start of the career, he has played with four different teams despite possessing great stats to play with one team for a longer period.
