Houston Astros pondering name change – MLB News
A day after the Houston Astros’ new owner, Jim Crane, announced unprecedented measures to attract more fans to the ballpark, changing the club’s name has emerged to be a slightly contentious issue.
The measures that included lowering the ticket prices and allowing the fans to bring food at the ballpark spread joy in and around Houston. However, that which demands a thorough debate all this while is changing the name of the club.
However, the team owner has not fully endorsed it as yet. He passionately believes in exchanging views, listening to everyone and then makes a decision. "We're going to study the information from the fans and from all sorts of marketing people," he said.
"I'm not saying we're going to change. We haven't made a decision yet."
Houston Astros’ new owner is a creative man. An accommodating owner, who attaches great importance to the wishes and expectations of the club fans, he has helped regenerate interest in the Astros since taking charge of the team.
The past season did not cast a good light on the club, thanks to an embarrassing show throughout the year. It was more than devastating for the club and their fans as the Astros lost more than 100 of their games in the season.
Even then, the ardent fans did not disassociate themselves with the team. Wherever and whenever they have been able, they have turned up to support the team. This unshakable faith and love for the team has kept the Astros going despite the hardly satisfying
performance throughout the years.
Instead of spending time on name change, nonetheless, a lot of fans maintain the team should spend their energy to find out talents. Some even question the logic of moving to American League, from the National League.
With the arrival of new owner, the team was moved to the American League; where games are more challenging than that of the National League. Nonetheless, despite the poor show in last few years, the Astros still stand a chance to perform well this year;
thanks to a few good inductions and the players’ determination to do something different.
More than two million fans visited the ballpark last year despite the Houston Astros inability to rout the rival teams. The last time the Houston Astros did make their way into the National League Championship Series was back in 2005. Since then there has
not been any significant accomplishment.
However, the new owner’s arrival has imbued hope in the team. From the fans to the players representing this club, there is hope that the Astros will be difficult to overcome this time round once the regular season kicks off after Spring Training.
