Houston Astros retain Angel Sanchez – MLB News
The Houston Astros will have Angel Sanchez in the club after he cleared the waivers, a report stated on Wednesday, February 1. With the clearance of the waivers comes the possibility of the player being invited to participate in Spring Training.
The Astros which has long been looking for supplementing the roster with dependable players will have a strong infielder available in Sanchez now. With the arrival of new owner Jim Crane and the new general manager Jeff Luhnow, the club is undergoing evolution
now.
Luhnow had presented a few parts of the 25 pages report, he sent to the Jim Crane, the new owner of the club, on Tuesday. For him, coaches and good scouts will be vital for the team’s growth in the long run.
"It took us eight years in St. Louis," he says. "We probably added three or four full-time employees each year, so [it took] probably 25-plus man years of really skilled people to get this thing to the point where it's up to the top of the industry. That's
the goal here in Houston. We had a lot of good scouts and coaches and front-office people, but this was an area that was missing. It was worth investing in right away."
The club has traded a few players like the Hunter Pence, last year, replacing him with a relatively new player. Sanchez here shall have a competition with Marwin Gonzalez for the position of starting shortstop in the new season.
Sanchez has shown a decent performance which has been good enough so far. It is this reason that he will have his place in the club in the days to come with the clearance of this waiver.
The player was part of 110 games last season, having scored 35 runs with 28 RBIs to his credit, maintaining an average of .240. He had a .305 OBP and a slugging percentage of .285. His career batting average is .255 in the 184 games that he has played, representing
the Houston Astros in last few years, with a .308 slugging percentage.
The Astros will be hoping for some success in the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball season as they prepare for Spring Training. The team has shown their faith in Angel Sanchez as he has now been retained and the Astros will be hoping for good things from
him.
