Houston Astros stun Miami Marlins with 5-4 win - MLB Update
The Houston Astros on Saturday, April 14, came almost from the verge to win a majestic 5-4 victory over the Miami Marlins. The game which was predominated by the Marlins up until the ninth inning took an incredibly turn when Carlos Lee went for a tying run coupled with the costly error by Logan Morrison, the Marlins left fielder made that paved the way for the Astros victory.
In effect, it also led to the defeat of Heath Bell who had otherwise thrown some of the best innings of the season here, allowing only a run in his 6-innng spell. If anything was needed to be done, it was executed by Brett Myers – the Houston Astros closer, who had a scoreless ninth to achieve the absolute win.
"We're a scrappy ballclub," Myers said. "This is something we didn't do last year. We'd go out there and feel like we didn't have a chance. That's one of the best closers in the game, and we went out there and battled as best we could and it ended up working out for us."
Budd Norris of the Astros could not quite maintain his grip on the game whereby he was punished by the Marlins hitters, who scored four runs in his six inning spell. The starter managed only two strikeouts to his credit.
In his four at-bats, Jose Reyes had a run and a hit with Emilio Bonifacio having a hit and two runs as Hanley Ramirez also scored a run in first and third inning to bring down the lead to 4-1 after Carlos Lee scored in the very first inning.
Rest of the game was effectively in the hands of the Miami Marlins bullpen which remained dominant as the Astros struggled to stage a comeback. It was Travis Buck who scored the second run in the ninth followed by runs coming off J Martinez and Lee’s bats with Bogusevic scoring the winning run as Logan Morrison committed the error as Heath Bell gave up four runs in the inning.
Brett Myers threw the final inning to wrap up the game with 5-1 victory for the Astros.
