Houston Astros thump New York Yankees 9-1 at Yankee Stadium - MLB Update
The Houston Astros had a totally different mood when they took the New York Yankees on in their own back yard on Monday, April 29, 2013. The home team was thumped 9-1 by the Astros, who are currently residing at the bottom of the American League West.
The times against Boston Red Sox were tough but it seems that Astros were quickly able to forget that part of the road trip. The 0-4 defeat at the hands of the Boston Red Sox appeared to be an event in the distant past.
Pitcher Lucas Harrell continued his good work and picked his third successive win to improve his record to 3-2 for the season thus far. He surrendered just a single run in over six innings before being retired.
The pitcher is quite happy with the ways things are and feels that the Houston ballclub has a good group of players who can perform well.
"It definitely feels good," Harrell said. "We've got a group of guys in here working hard and trying to get better every day. We have some quality baseball players in here.”
The only run for the Yankees came in the sixth inning of the match. By that time, the Astros were already nine runs ahead and the New York ballclub was unable to make a heroic comeback.
Houston Astros’ Manager Bo Porter was pleased by the show and said that there was a reason for which the Almighty created the night, simply to catch some rest and try to do better the next day. He thinks that you can simply not just keep your head down in
baseball after a bad show.
"I keep telling those guys, 'It's a long season,'" Porter said. "Baseball is not a sport that you want to hold your head down. That's the reason why God put a good night's sleep in between two bad days. You have to come back the next day, hold your head
high, have a smile on your face and be ready to go."
The bats were certainly talking from the Astros and Carlos Corporan had the most fun, going 4-for-5. He drove in four runs which are his career best numbers and had a two-run home-run as well. Chris Carter, Carlos Pena and Brandon Laird all went 2-for-5
in the game.
On the receiving end was Andy Pettitte, himself a former Astros’ pitcher. He is currently 3-2 in the season but Monday was certainly not his night. The pitcher himself called it a very frustrating night.
The result is certainly a great one for the Houston Astros who were struggling big time before this game. This should provide them with much needed self belief and they can build on further from this result.
