Houston Astros to add five top prospects in Major League camp – MLB News
The Houston Astros decided on Monday, February 6, to add five top prospects to the Major League as the team vows to surprise their rivals. The club which lost more than 100 games during the past season caused a colossal disappointment for the fans.
However, with the new season around the corner, the team is ever more resolved to do something distinctive this time. It is this reason that on Monday they sent invitation to outfielders George Springer and Jake Goebbert, infielders Jonathan Singleton, Delino
DeShields Jr. and Jonathan Villar.
The move shall be seen as yet another attempt in the team’s renewed efforts to elevate itself at a time when observers are critically assessing the Astros’ every move. On the other hand, the team’s general manager Jeff Luhnow sees it as an opportunity for
the young players to get exposed to the Major League.
"This is about the opportunity for them to get exposed to the Major League staff and veteran players," Luhnow said. "For all those guys, it's more about getting experience and getting a taste of it."
Among the pool of talent is a player who is tipped to be a potential star in the future. The Houston Astros’ pick for First-Year Player Draft, outfielder George Springer won the Big East Player of the Year honour last year with his singularly impressive
performance throughout the year, having played 66 games, with a .343 average, hitting no less than 12 homers with 77 RBIs.
He is ready to accept this challenge.
"I would assume there would be some nerves, but ultimately I'm going to go out there and play and play as hard as I can, and whatever happens, happens," Springer told MLB.com. "The game is hard enough, and you can't let it get harder. I'm going to go out
and have fun and enjoy this experience."
The Astros are undergoing a new phase of changes as they have recently received a new owner and team manager. As they have not won any major title for years now, the 2012 regular season is expected to see some change in the chronicling of their history as
far as their performance is concerned.
