Houston Astros trounce Seattle Mariners 10-3 to win home series at Minute Maid Park - MLB News
The Houston Astros trounced the Seattle Mariners 10-3 on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Minute Maid Park to grab the home series 2-1. The Astros now stand at a much improved 7-14 win-loss record though there is certainly plenty of more room for improvement.
This is a good win for the Houston team which will now be hitting the road and taking on the likes of New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in their own backyard.
Bo Porter, the manager for the Astros, was quite happy with the performance of his team which outplayed Mariners in all three departments of the game.
"That felt like a complete game," Porter said. "We pitched well; we hit well. We made all the plays, and we came up with a couple big hits."
Lucas Harrell picked up his second win of the season and now stands at 2-2 win-loss record. The pitcher understands that he needs to be aggressive and attack the strike zone more in order to get the batters out of there.
"I'd gotten away from being aggressive; I need to attack more," said Harrell. "Strike one was huge today. My goal was to attack and get strike one."
The 27-year-old pitcher said that having runs on the board early helped him as a pitcher and he could afford to target the strike zone more.
"We scored a run early, and it puts you in the driver's seat as a pitcher," Harrell said. "All you got to do is throw strikes and get some people out.”
It was a productive day for the batting line up as well as Brandon Laird and Ronny Cedeno both got three-run home-runs and debutant Robbie Grossman made his arrival to the big leagues with a bang, scoring a couple of doubles.
The cherry on the cake was the home-run by Chris Carter that went all of 440 feet in the bottom of the second to get the Houston ballclub on the scoreboard. The Astros scored nine runs between the fourth and sixth inning including a five run sixth to seal
the deal.
Bo Porter was pleased to see the performance by Robbie and believes that the 23-year-old is quite an exciting prospect.
"He adds a dynamic to our club," Porter said. "A little speed at the top of the lineup, and a guy that gets on base. We're pretty excited about him.”
The mini turnaround from the Astros is certainly a welcome development for the fans and they will like the team to give these performances more often and show more fight.
It also shows that the Astros have what it takes to perform well and all they need to do is to show consistency in order to compete against the better teams in Major League Baseball.
